Johanna Schwab, originally from Hanau (DE), studied painting and later in the class for comprehensive artistic practice with Ulrike Grossarth at the Hochschule für Bildende Künste Dresden.
Johanna understands painting as a means to form connections.
In 2013 Johanna moved to Vienna for a Masters degree. Here, she began her practice of painting on clothes under the programmatic title Portraying Volcanoes. Her collaborator is fashion maker Roswitha Seeber (label: Julie Strom) who tailors the pieces to be painted on. Their mutual label and studio is called Feder und Flamme.
Currently, Johanna is based in New York City, where she interviews fashion makers and artists about their careers, DIY matters and various ways of forming connections. Her project is funded by the German Academic Exchange service.
